《大海》The Sea

Learn Chinese through Songs. Today, we share a new song by 张雨生. The song is called 《大海》 “The Sea.”

For Chinese language learners, after your initial viewing of a video, I suggest that you focus on learning a few words, whichever goal you have.

Pick out the words you want to understand, look them up in an online dictionary or app. As you can see, each currently produced music video, we add pinyin as well as Chinese characters in each lyric, to make it easier for your learning and for you to look up words using pinyin and then match up with characters to learn the meanings.

Get the meanings of the words in English (or in your native language). Then, watch a second time. This time without looking at each word’s meaning, test yourself to see if you remember it. Then, try to guess the meaning of a phrase and/or the sentence where the word(s) are.

Usually, certain lyrics repeat throughout each song, it is very beneficial to tackle some words that appear often in the song so that you can learn to recognize more words and understand meanings of sentences, eventually the full song.

By being disciplined you will not only learn to sing the songs you watch, you will be pleasantly surprised at your progress in Chinese language learning.
